URGENT: POLICE ARRESTED DINH NHAT UY, OLDER BROTHER OF DINH NGUYEN KHA

Như Ngọc (Danlambao) - Around 1:00 p.m., June 15, 2013, Long An city police unexpectedly mobilized a force to surround the property of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kim Lien, the mother of Dinh Nhat Uy and Dinh Nguyen Kha, for a search operation without her presence.

By 3:30 p.m., Dinh Nhat Uy, the older brother of Nguyen Dinh Kha, was reportedly escorted home by police to be served a “warrant of urgent arrest”, along with a 3 month detention order.

According to the family, Dinh Nhat Uy was charged with allegedly “abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State” under Article 258 of the penal code. The communist authorities have recently used this law to arrest or detent well known bloggers such as Truong Duy Nhat, Pham Viet Dao, Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh.

During the search, police had seized a lot of family properties such as electronic devices, phones, computer hard drives.

Dinh Nhat Uy, born 1983, is the older brother of the patriotic student Dinh Nguyen Kha, who was sentenced to 8 years in prison along with Nguyen Phuong Uyen by a court in Long An city last May.

Since Kha’s arrest, Uy and his family members have been repeatedly harassed and threatened by police. His business has been raided several times and properties taken illegally by police.

Recently, Dinh Nhat Uy has made great efforts to call public attention to the case of his younger brother, Dinh Nguyen Kha, and Nguyen Phuong Uyen. For example, he and his friends have posted their pictures holding banners with the message “China get out of the East Sea!” on their Facebook accounts. Such banners were previously written with blood by Nguyen Phuong Uyen to express her anger with Chinese expansion against Vietnam.

The “China get out of the East Sea!” banners were used by the communist court as criminal possession of materials “that speak ill of China” to foster its case to imprison the two young patriots.

The arrest of Dinh Nhat Uy took place just a few days before the visit to China of Vietnam President Truong Tan Sang. The arrest occurred in Long An city, also the hometown of Mr. Truong Tan Sang.
